Smack dab in the heart of Lincoln’s Historic Haymarket lies the complex of tech company CompanyCam, developers of an app dedicated to the organized photographic documentation of contracting projects of all kinds. Their app is highly revered by many Lincoln contracting businesses for its design, and is still being developed today. It allows teams to communicate and send photos to clients and commissioners in real-time, automatically adding timestamps and locations to photos, as well as saving them all to a highly secure Cloud storage. They’re beloved for a reason, as a very trusted sponsor of Bay High, and students were given the pleasure to be able to interview several different team members around the building as an addendum to their Take Charge and career courses, providing them a specific insight into local businesses and, specifically, tech businesses.
In groups of two to three, the Bay students were assigned one employee from all sorts of departments; Spanning from more creative areas, like the graphic and product design teams, in charge of the visuals of anything connected to the CompanyCam name and app, to the more logistical and personable jobs like social media managing, marketing, and internal communications – some spheres which were even considerably smaller. Internal communications manager Haley Gonzales is only one half of the company’s relatively new department, dedicated to the relations and messages between and to different branches. Numbers aren’t everything, though, and the environment encourages collaboration between teams; A sentiment sometimes lost in modern jobs. They pride themselves on their connection across employees of all backgrounds, as well as the more “down to earth” experience they offer in their workspace, both in and out of the office.
“CompanyCam does a pretty good job at that balance of mental health. […] We’re adults, we need to grind it out, but we also need to take work the right amount of serious,” Haley says, in response to the question of how a laid-back work environment has helped with her work experience.
The building itself has a very open floor plan, with several windows and open walls. They don’t have cubicles for separate employees, and instead are grouped by department, encouraging strong intracommunication and collaboration. Overall, the vibe remains steady and chill, one that many students have admitted to admiring. It has been the most positively received field trips of the year, offering not only a strong introduction of the possibilities for careers local to Lincoln beyond your usual trades, but a fun and interactive trip for all parties involved.
